At the beginning of 1931, support for the United Party turned Labour, who was linked to an old Liberal Party faith. The United Party began after the Maori Wars, originally as the Liberal Party, a party of Maori and Colonials, one famous Prime Minister being Timi Kara, a Maori Irishman. He in fact was elected to Government office for his political record, but also in part for being a presidential figure with the ancestry of half Maori and half Irish, an agreed spokesman to handle the collision of policies.
The political issues then, 30 years later ago in 1901 was land and boundary, title and property, and the resolution of Maori Iwi wars. By the 1920s, the United Party had made its contributions to being a processor of legislation, a department with a strong logo, but lacked in defining a "New Zealand identity", being that it was originally setup to compromise as the friendly, to mediate.
With the World Wars moving forward, definite allegiances were hailed by international neighbors, a complete opposite circumstance to New Zealand's newly formed bridges. After 20 years of sewing seeds internally, the NZ Government flopped on its back, simply by not standing under its flag of "neutrality".
In New Zealand, the Labour Party numbers rose because the United Party had complied to being a soldier of War, without the consent of its citizens, using established citizen company and public funds to support War efforts. The New Zealand economic Depression, meant in business terms "every man for himself", and Labour was a new "Capital for New Zealand" party. The Samoan Defense League supported Labour for its more open commercial stances. In 1935, the United Party was pushed out of office and Labour took NZ Government under Michael Joseph Savage. In 1936, a New Zealand delegation was sent to Western Samoa, speaking with Mau and the Faipule Legislature, with all parties reuniting. The "son" of Tupua Tamasese Lealofi III, the Mau leader who died in 1929 in Apia, became joint head of state with Malietoa Tanumafili II.
The United party fell apart in 1936 and was dissolved after the defeat as it was permanently labeled in the public eye as the "one that brought War back to New Zealand". United Party reformed its coalition under a new flag of The National Party who used a nationalistic title, campaigning "New Zealand for New Zealand", but remained the old United Party faith, a Maori and Colonial coalition.
