Albert Wendt NZ Western Samoan Writer: Is this guy even Samoan?

The Page below is written by Albert Wendt, a controversial NZ Samoan writer who has seemed to distort some facts in his book -Title: ‘Guardians and Wards’ : (A study of the origins, causes, and the first two years of the Mau in Western Samoa.) The funny thing is we can't really say he distorted the History, because he labeled himself a "Novelist & Poet", not a Historian or academic. There is a part where Albert Wendt writes "A colourful American Adventurer" referring to US. American agent Steinberger. A Samoan King rank of Malietoa of Western Samoa, made a speech back then and called the US. American agent for the President of the United States Steinberger an honorable man and specifically called him not an adventurer or schemer type of man.

He's misleading the reader to think Europeans held all motives hand-in-hand, a European community, close to what's in Wikipedia today in summary of Samoa. The first World War is to occur only a generation away. The US. American President at that time was General Ulysses S. Grant from the US. American Civil War who fought Confederate States and British suppliers. And Steinberger was a Presidential Agent with Naval title working directly under the US. President's command, who gave Western Samoa gifts of weapons, payback for supplying arms to the Southern Confederates. Mr. Grant also held meetings with Native American nations and Ireland during his political years in influence.
