An American of German and French descent became one of the most beloved actors in the world, a man of deep thought, a genius on screen and in his professional choices (also a director, producer, businessman and activist). He started his acting career in the 1940's on the New York stage of Broadway, moving in 1950 to the Big Screen, starring in "The Men" Directed by Fred Zinnemann. As a successful young actor, his fan following was intertwined with other youth influences of the times such as James Dean and Elvis Presley. After 1953 with the movies "Julius Caesar" and "The Wild One", Mr. Brando's following had the love of both the mature American audiences and it's wild free-spirited youth. His Hollywood relationships with two women were short and ended friendly.
In 1962, a movie was made that would change both Marlon Brando's life and of select people who lived in Tahiti. A film Directed by Lewis Milestone and Produced by Aaron Rosenberg "Mutiny on the Bounty" historically took place in the year 1789 on the open seas where the mission of the ship The Bounty was to sail from Britain's shores to Polynesia, and retrieve a plant (breadfruit) that could be of great health service.
Marlon Brando wrote "Realities surpassed even my fantasies about Tahiti, and I had some of the best times of my life making Mutiny on the Bounty... Every day as soon as the director said cut for the last time, I ripped off my British naval officer's uniform and dove off the ship into the bay to swim with the Tahitian extras working on the movie. Often we only did two or three shots a day which left me hours to enjoy their company, and I grew to love them for their love of life"
Editor "Interestingly enough, The King of Rock n Roll, Elvis Presley also was spell bound by Polynesia's Mana, and he considered Hawaii his home"
During the making of the film Marlon Brando fell in love with both Polynesia and to a most beautiful Tahitian actress Tarita Teriipaia who in the movie played his character's lover and who later won a Best supporting actress Golden Globe nomination. The film Mutiny on the Bounty with Brando was one of the first interracial kisses on screen and became an American classic. Marlon and Tarita were married and became a couple of good and hard fates.
Being a man who greatly enjoyed his peace and privacy, Marlon Brando settled down and made a private life founding a deep relationship with Polynesian community, obtaining a special terms lease by the local Polynesian authorities for development plans. A luxury Hotel was constructed by Brando and family and were eventually responsible for implementing environmentally safe energy in that area. Teihotu Brando (the son) who inherited his father's features has helped keep up management of the property. Eastern Polynesians of Tetiaroa still honor his name and maintain the atoll region. Elite actors and Libertarians such as President of the United States Barack Obama have too found themselves in Tetiaroa.
