ANSWER: YES, the Dawn Raids in New Zealand started against Tongans and was stopped by the Samoans and campaigned against by NZ Labour, Maori, and Polynesian Panthers. New Zealand History has recently in 2020 attempted to cover up the old history hoping to demoralize Samoan History with a new summary on The Dawn Raids where the Kirk Labour Party is blamed, however The National Party under Robert Muldoon were the ones responsible. The NZ Dawn raids began against a Tongan family in Auckland with Sione and Setatita a middle-aged Tongan couple and their sons Tesimoni (20) and Masiu (6) in Grey Lynn.
Samoans in the community and in close relations to the family were outraged and campaigned to cease the police activity and some how by doing so, have become the ones most mentioned in the NZ Dawn Raids when it was originally to help Tongan neighbors. Many historical summary from New Zealand have the same article picture (below) but cut off the full article and only show the Dawn Raid police picture, leaving out the details of the actual events.
