ANSWER: Magellan
The first Euro-Spanish Portuguese blooded navigator to cross into the Asia Pacific and Polynesian areas, sailing through the Atlantic, then around South America's southern tip. He was a Portuguese-man (an area to the west of Spain and conquered by Muslims), who sailed under the banner of the Imperial Crown of Spain to prove his theory that there was a western passage to Cathay-China Asia and the Pacific Spice Islands (Malayunesia- Indonesia) by way of the Atlantic.
He was lost most of the time at sea but rutter (maps) by former Muslim expeditions helped him find the passage to Polynesia & Asia. He named it the Strait of Magellan after himself, and his expedition fleet entered "The Great South Sea" in November, 1520. Magellan reached the Ladrones (Marianas) on March 6, 1521, and he was killed a month later at the Pacific island of Mactan, by Polynesia, inside the Philippines. His bones or body was never recovered because during the fight his crew were already leaving him while he was being captured. The Spanish crew that followed him to Asia and Polynesia never went back to trade for his physical remains.

Who was Ferdinand Magellan?
(above) Although many western texts call him white, he was indeed a tanned man with dark black wavy hair. The Muslims owned all of Spain before the revolution and there were long periods of admixture during the occupation of Spanish lands.
